4-HEADED STANDiNG BRAHMA

13TH CENTURY
BAYNON STYLE

God of Creation, four-headed Brahma stands resolute and firm. His four heads represent the four Vedas, the most ancient religious text carried in the Khmer culture. His multiple faces point in four directions: North, South, East and West. He also has four hands which symbolize human nature/personality: mind(back right), intellect (back left), ego (front right), and self-confidence (front left).

Brahma means soul and the “Brhmajnan” flows through the soul up into the intellect. A distinctive white light of pure consciousness and intelligence emanate from him.

This sculpture of Brahma greets us with serene devotion. There is a message here, what is it? Certainly not mere sentiment, but one of deep truth: JOY is the ROOT of ALL creation. He reminds us that we are creative beings. Wielding that creativity through our choices allows for freedom and empowerment.
In this piece specifically, he holds his rosary/mala be a but nothing else. The Khmer artist sculpts only the beads to demonstrate how they aid in Brahma’s meditations, symbolizing ALL of the substances that go into creating the universe.

This Khmer sculpture carries a profound and sacred energy, willing to assist in self-discovery and empowerment. Allow him to teach you, acknowledge his wisdom. He won’t bite . . . neither will the stillness.
